Uber UK Review: Is 60% Off Your First Ride Worth It?
Uber reviewed for riders in Britain: who runs it and how it is licensed, how upfront fares and cancellation fees work, what our 60% first-ride code nqayjm3k9d7r is worth, when to add it, and what riders complain about.

Best for
People in Britain who have never taken an Uber and have a specific trip coming up, such as a late journey home or an airport run, where a pre-booked car makes sense anyway.
Uber is a licensed private hire operator: in London it runs as Uber London Limited under a Transport for London licence renewed in September 2024, and the app shows a fare before you book. Our code nqayjm3k9d7r gives a new rider 60% off one trip. Uber's UK promotion terms let a percentage code carry a maximum discount or maximum ride value, and the promotion's details in the app show what applies to you, so read them before you ride. On an £18 trip, 60% off is £10.80, leaving £7.20 if the cap allows. Add the code before you request the trip, because Uber won't apply it afterwards, and save it for a ride where 60% lands close to the cap rather than a short hop.
Pros
- 60% off your first Uber trip with our code nqayjm3k9d7r
- The fare shown before you book already includes the discount
- Uber London Limited holds a TfL private hire operator licence, renewed for 30 months in September 2024
- UberXL seats up to six, and Reserve lets you book an airport trip ahead
- A three-minute grace period to cancel free after a driver accepts
- Rated 4.9 from 1.9 million ratings on the UK App Store (24 October 2026)
Watch-outs
- One discounted trip only, and only for riders new to Uber
- Uber can cap a percentage code at a maximum discount or ride value
- The code can't be added after you request the trip, and unused value doesn't roll over
- It won't combine with any other promo code
- Cancelling after the grace period, or keeping a driver waiting five minutes, can cost a fee
- Common complaints: pickup times that stretch, driver cancellations and hard-to-reach support

What Uber is and how it is licensed in Britain
Uber's app matches you with a private hire driver and car. Private hire journeys in Britain must be pre-booked rather than hailed, so only get into the car and driver the app shows you. In London the operator is Uber London Limited (company 08014782, Aldgate Tower), which also runs Uber's UK rider promotions. Transport for London renewed its private hire operator licence in September 2024 for 30 months, with conditions. Outside London, councils license private hire operators, drivers and vehicles locally.
The app itself comes from Uber Technologies, Inc. Uber says it works in more than 15,000 cities and over 700 airports, which matters later if you want to use the code abroad.
Ride options and the fare you see
In Britain the app offers standard rides alongside UberXL, a van or SUV for up to six people, Reserve for booking an airport trip ahead, Package for sending an item across town, and group rides that collect friends from different pickup points. Some cities also show taxis or chauffeur cars. Uber One, Uber's membership, adds member pricing on rides and deliveries; the app shows its current price.
Enter your pickup and destination and the app shows a fare for each option before you request. It moves with demand, time of day and the option you pick, so compare it with a local minicab firm or black cab on routes you know. Any promotion on your account is applied to that fare before you confirm.
The 60% first-ride code
Our invite link carries code nqayjm3k9d7r and offers "60% off next 1 Uber trip", exclusively for new Uber riders. Uber's UK promotion terms then apply: you must be 18 or over, in a UK location where Uber operates, and a code marketed for new users can't be used if you already have an Uber account. Percentage discounts can be subject to a maximum ride value or maximum discount, each code can be used once, and codes don't combine with other discount codes, apart from some that work alongside Uber One.
Uber can void, suspend or amend a promotion, and its decisions under the terms are final. Disclosure: nqayjm3k9d7r is BonusRoam's own invite code, so Uber may reward us too when you take your first trip.
What 60% off is worth
Take an £18 trip. Sixty per cent off is £10.80, so you would pay £7.20, provided the promotion's maximum discount is at least £10.80. If the cap is lower, you save the cap and pay the rest of the fare. Uber applies the discount to the total cost of the ride, and anything above it goes on your payment method.
That makes timing the real decision. On a £6 hop the code saves £3.60; on a longer trip it saves more, up to the cap. The sweet spot is a ride you need anyway whose fare is around the cap divided by 0.6, so read the cap before choosing which trip to use it on.
Adding the code, and when
Open the link on the phone you'll ride with, enter your number and claim the offer, then sign up in the Uber app. If the code isn't already there, go to your profile, Wallet, Add Promo Code and enter nqayjm3k9d7r. Wallet > Promotions lists your active codes with their expiry date and the country they work in.
Do this before you request the trip. Uber's help is blunt: promotions must be applied before requesting a trip and can't be applied afterwards. A new rider can apply only one new-user code before the first trip, and if several promotions sit on your account, Uber applies the one with the higher maximum discount to your next ride.
Using the code abroad
Uber promotions can only be redeemed in the currency they were issued in, and the Promotions page shows the country each one is valid for. So check it before relying on the code for your first ride on holiday, rather than assuming a UK sign-up discount travels with you.
If the code shows a different country or currency from where you'll ride, it will sit unused while you pay full fare. Credit or Uber Cash in another currency stays on your account and applies to your next eligible ride in that currency.
Cancellations and what the code doesn't cover
You can cancel at any time, but Uber may charge a fee if you cancel more than three minutes after a driver accepts, or if your driver cancels after waiting at least five minutes at the pickup. Bike, parcel and intercity trips get five minutes' grace. Only request when you're ready and near the pickup point, especially on the trip carrying your discount.
Whatever the discount doesn't cover is charged to your payment method, and any unused value is lost rather than carried to the next trip. If you split the fare with friends, the discount comes from the account that requested the ride.
What riders complain about
On 24 October 2026 the Uber app was rated 4.9 from 1.9 million ratings on the UK App Store, and 4.8 from about 279,000 on the Hong Kong store. Most rides go to plan, and that's what the scores reflect.
The complaints that recur are pickup estimates that keep growing, drivers dropping accepted trips, cancellation fees riders say they didn't cause, fares that rise when you search again after a cancellation, refunds paid as Uber credit rather than to the card, and no easy way to reach a person. Screenshot the fare and keep the receipt for the discounted ride in case you need to dispute it.
Who should use it, and who should skip it
Use the code if you've never ridden with Uber, live or are travelling somewhere it operates in Britain, and have a trip coming up that you'd book anyway, ideally one long enough for 60% to approach the cap. Check the promotion's details first, add the code before requesting, and you'll see the saving in the fare before you commit.
Skip it if you already have an Uber account, if your trip would be cheaper by bus, train or a local minicab even after the discount, or if you'd only take an extra ride to use it. A percentage code doesn't make an unnecessary trip good value.
FAQ
- What does code nqayjm3k9d7r give me?
- 60% off your next Uber trip, one trip only, for riders new to Uber. The promotion's details in the app show its expiry, country and any maximum discount.
- Is there a cap on the 60%?
- Uber's UK terms allow a percentage code to have a maximum discount or maximum ride value. Check the promotion before riding; if the cap is below 60% of your fare, you save the cap.
- When do I add the code?
- Before you request the trip, during sign-up or under Wallet > Add Promo Code. Uber can't apply a promotion after the trip is requested.
- I've used Uber before. Can I use it?

- Will the code work on holiday?
- Only where its country and currency match. Uber promotions redeem only in the currency they were issued in, and the Promotions page shows the country.
- Will I be charged if I cancel?
- Possibly, if you cancel more than three minutes after a driver accepts, or your driver waits five minutes at the pickup and then cancels.
